About MM Athletic Therapy

Who is Matthew Miller M.Sc, CAT(C)?

I grew up in Nova Scotia and quickly developed a love of sports. I started playing soccer from a very young age and love being active. This love for sports led me to a career working with the athletic population. I quickly learned I had a strong passion for Athletic Therapy. I love being able to help an athlete on day 1 of their injury, and being able to help them get back on the field performing at a higher level than before their injury.

I  worked at Bishop's University in Sherbrooke QC, as an Athletic Therapist for the past two varsity seasons (2015 & 2016). I had the opportunity to work closely with the football team and women's soccer team. In the summer of 2016 I was invited to work with the Montreal Alouette's Strength and Conditioning staff throughout their summer training camp. These experiences gave me exposure to athletic development and rehabilitation at the highest level in Canada, and a set of new skills to help benefit my clients.

I use peer reviewed research, orthopaedic testing, and clinical experience to find the root cause of the injury. I believe in prescribing exercises to prevent the injury from happening again and exercises to benefit you in your activity of choice. I can help you if you have a chronic injury. I can also help you choose proper foot wear by doing a gait analysis, give postural exercises, provide prophylactic taping, and help you recover after surgery.

In my free time I love checking out new restaurants around Montreal (recommendations welcome), watching sports, and wishing my landlord would allow dogs in my building.

What is Athletic Therapy?

Certified Athletic Therapists are best known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes. The first to respond when someone gets hurt, they are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating the musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries of all Canadians, whether on the field or in the clinic.

Athletic therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery, using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist's goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.

Certified Athletic Therapists can be recognized by the credential CAT(C).
